How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Litres needed = distance divided by km per litre (or distance x litres per 100 km / 100). Cost = litres x the diesel price. 1,000 km at 2.5 km per litre is 400 litres; at R30 a litre that is R12,000.
How do I work out a truck's cost per km?
Add up a month's costs for the truck (diesel, tyres, maintenance, the driver, insurance and licence, finance, tolls) and divide by the kilometres it did that month.
How do I convert km per litre to litres per 100 km?
Divide 100 by the km per litre. 2.5 km per litre is 40 litres per 100 km.
What is a normal km per litre for a loaded truck?
Loaded long-haul trucks often run between about 2 and 3 km per litre, depending on the truck, the load and the road. Compare each truck with its own usual, not with a table.
